Use GenAI to write practice questions

Description: Students are always asking for more and more revision questions.  GenAI can be used to develop these questions and when used on conjunction with PeerView, these questions can be collated and shared within the student cohort.

Ask students to use ChatGPT to write assessment questions based on your learning outcomes.  Students attempt the questions and share them using PeerView, where other students can suggest alternative response and rate the quality of the poster’s answer.

Assessment Example: AI in

Education category: STEM & HASS

Assessment types: Examinations

Unit Context: Applicable to any unit

Learning Objectives: Disciplinary knowledge

Which AI tools & why: ChatGPT

How is task & AI structured/scaffolded: Critical analysis of generative AI developed responses

What support/guidance was needed for students: Thinking critically

2-3 things that worked well: GenAI is very good at writing questions, but the problem comes with the accuracy of the response. Students must have decent critical analysis skills to determine which responses are garbage and which are factually appropriate.

2-3 things that need improvement: interaction with PeerView – must have an incentive for students to engage

Things to consider when adapting to your context: Has the potential to lead to misinformation. That’s where PeerView is important – it allows for the peer review of the questions by the rest of the cohort to reduce the impact of misinformation.
